Christine and Celine Unwell

My eldest daugther, Christine fell sick on a Saturday evening, she came down with fever and it was rather high as it was hovering between 38 to 40 degree Celsius. The next morning we brought her to see the doctor and learnt that she had throat infection, there were ulcers near her tonsils. She was given antibiotics with medicine to reduce her fever. Just one hitch, apparently she doesn’t like the orange flavored medicine so we switched to strawberry flavor. She recovered after a few days and was back to school on Thursday (9th November)

Next it was Celine’s turn, she fell sick on Wednesday(8th November). She was having the same illness as her sister Christine, the high fever and the ulcers in her throat near the tonsils. We brought her to the doctor too. However the doctor did no give any antibiotics, except medicine to bring down the fever. The doctor advised us that, the ulcers are not dangerous and let it run it’s course. Sure enough by Friday, her fever had came down and the ulcers are retreating. We know this as we can feed her milk from the bottle again. Previously she can’t and we had to spoon fed her, probably it was painfull for her to suck and swallow.

When her fever subsided, she developed rashes. It was more like patches and spots. These were rose pink in color and mainly found on her arms, legs and body. I did some search on the internet and I read about this skin rashes common to babies. It is call Roseola. The symptoms described fit quite nicely with the situation that Celine went through. The information states that the rashes will disappeared after 3 to 5 days. In Celine case, the rashes disappeared by day 3. After that she came down with diarrhea on Monday (13/11/2006). We brought her to the doctor again and was given medicine for the diarrhea and rehydration salts. The doctor advised us that if by Wednesday, that’s 48hrs and the situation does not improves, we will have to bring some of her stool sample for analysis.

I can see that her situation had improved within 24 hrs after taking the medicine. Before that, she was passing stools more than 7 times a day and with stains of blood and mucous. After taking the medication, it was three times but there was still some mucous and a little blood but overall, it’s an improvement. On Wednesday (15/11/2006) we saw that there was no need to bring her stool samples to the laboratory as she, her stools are normal again.

Thank God for watching over my children. All in all, this pass two weeks had been a tiring and worrying week . I believe this is how all parents will feel and go throught when ever the children are unwell.
