I Submitted My Resignation Too… But 2 Years Ago
I just read “submitted my 3 months resignation notice” and this following what I read here “Bye-Bye-My-Second-Job” a couple of weeks back. Well both of them have reached a stage where their current online incomes allow them to ‘chuck’ their jobs. Congrates to you both.
This moment reminded me of the time I did the same thing two years back. But then, I was not getting any source of income or had any online venture to speak of. I only have a firm conviction that I am going to make it and doing it online. I gave myself 2 years but no..two years is not enough if you are starting from scratch. However I asked myself in these two years what are my experiences that I can share with others. Well there are a lot but I will keep it brief and touch on what’s vital. So read on.
Well the first one on my list is you need to have a plan, not the 100% very detail operation plan but a plan that at least has these three consideration. Briefly they are:
-
1) Plan how to support yourself and family before your online venture can do so (if you already have a great online income, then plan to improve on it)..
2) Have an idea what you want to achieve, be it income goals, business goals, etc
3) Then plan how you want to achieve them and give yourself a time frame.
Among the three, No1 is the most vital. I didn’t wake up one morning and decided to quit my job, no I made that decisision a number of years back and it took me more than three years preapring for the day when I can say I am ready on my own.
Once you are on your own, stick to the plan. However be prepared for the unexpected and believe me they do happen. These may affect what you had planned, however be fexible enought to adjust it. At all time always keep your end goals in focus.
Every now and then do a review of your plan. Don’t do it only when the unexpected happened but make it a habit to do a review every 3 months or so. It is critical to know where you are heading and if required make adjustment to your plan.
Another main thing is, you and your own family will need a certain period adjusting to this new life of working from home. One thing for sure is, you suddenly have lots of time but don’t let this fool you. Time management is as important now as ever.
The other thing is your other family members need to understand that you are now self employed and is also making a living but working from home. Most still had the idea that you are probably relaxing all day and staying at home equate retirement. Every now and then they will still tell you to get a real job outside.
Then there are the curiuous neighbours who wander what you are doing or had happened. You get the endless questions like ” So what are you doing now? ” , ” Who are you with now? ” , ” So your business is located where?” Thus be prepared to answer these and many other ‘poking’ questions. Normally I just say I am with myself , working from home and my business is based online and hand them my card ( so make sure your biz card is one of the main thing to get ready). My websites are in the card, I invite them to drop by and since one of my online business is selling products online I asked them to consider buying from me.
Right I can go on..but I will stop here now as I am keeping this brief. However feel free to comment or ask question by droping me a line at here contact-the-blogger

thank you for the advice.
Liew, you are most welcome.
